TRANSIT OF VENUS

COLDFOOT, ALASKA

JUNE 8, 2004

These are a couple of our pictures from Coldfoot. These were taken with a hydrogen/alpha telescope. The first one is right at ingress. The second is after the transit, just showing solar prominences. The third is with the sun skimming along the mountains, clouds above and venus in the middle. 6brw was taken by my friends in Barrow Alaska.

Coldfoot is a little village (truck stop) about 60 miles north of the Artic circle. We drove up there to have the midnight sun during the Transit of Venus. It was just me and Lana, and friends, another couple from Long Beach, CA. I put 1300 heavy miles on the old Suburban for this trip. The Dalton Highway (commonly known as the Haul Road) is quite a challenge. The scenery is awesome.
